This is my final piece for my surface class. The background is painted with oil bars, the people are sketched on mylar, and the framing is inspired by this instructable. This piece got a much nicer crit than my last one. I was so glad.

Mirror Portrait

We were supposed to look really close up in a mirror and draw only what we saw. It also had to be our height and entire body.

My teacher hated this piece and I got a really terrible critique.

She was all upset because it didn't look like I had done the "process" correctly and it was "unfair because I did so little" (100+ drawings). She is really inconsistent with her criticism and picky, it caught me off guard. I was so upset after staying up all night. I cried and it was extremely embarrassing.

Digital Sketch

So this is a digital sketch of my final surface(2d class) project. The only requirement is that it has to be a narrative. I am going to paint the elevator more stylized in oil bars and then the people will be sketched on sheets of mylar. It is due next Monday. D: Wish me luck.

Masterpiece Recreation

The assignment was to recreate a masterpiece that has at least six people in it. Then we had to replace the original faces with the faces of our classmates.

I choose Tolouse-Lautrec's "Salon at the Rue de Moulins."

This was my first experience using oil bars too. I love them!

Troll's Spindle

This was my final project in my Craft/Material Studies Project class. The assignment was to just make a piece of wearable art. Pretty broad, huh?

Well, I decided I wanted to do something that involved constricting the movement of hands. So I look up some bondage techniques and found a nice one called "The Dragonfly."

Intrigued, I looked up some information on dragonflies. There are interestingly quite a few myths and legends all around the world about dragonflies. A continuing thread in European legends was that they were evil and even the devil's servants. There was also a continuing sewing theme. One myth explained that dragonflies were used by trolls as spindles. Then another one said that dragonflies follow serpents and when they get hurt the dragonflies would sew up their wounds.

So playing off the sewing and spindle ideas I created this piece of "wearable art".

I'll post some better pictures once my professor e-mails them to me.

Matchbox Cuff

This is made out of a vintage matchbox I found at a punk thrift store and wire. The matches were the ones that came in the box. The box is still functional too. On the back it says, "Pegasus Restaurant, Lounge, and Entertainment Center" And the top says, "Holiday Inn - Midtown (502) 589-6410 Louisville, Ky."

Cardboard Piece

The assignment was to suspend a found object up to a certain height based on it's weight. My found objects were two old books I came upon in the Richmond Public Library. One is an old prayer book which had sticky notes in it around prayers to say during the burial of the dead. So maybe it was used during funerals. Very creepy indeed... The other book is called 'The Human Hand'. It is about palmistry,but not really in an occult sense. It is more about defining people and discovering if they are possibly mentally unstable by their hands. Again, kind of creepy. I didn't mean to get such 'deep' books but they were the most appealing.

This third tube like limb thing was empty and I didn't want to put another book there. So I filled it with quotes, lyrics, and poems with some help from a friend. So it became more of an interactive piece. Take one, leave one.

Weigh all the options. There are too many out there to believe one is the absolute truth. Come to your own conclusions and grow.
